FOX23 Interview: Bowden McElroy Discusses Meth Users and Impact on Kids

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

We’re catching up on our postings around here at CFI.  This past January, Mr. Bowden McElroy was also interviewed by FOX23 about the impact on children when they are exposed to parents who use, abuse, and cook meth.

Interview excerpt:

“Kids model themselves after their parents; they take on the values of their parents,” said counselor Bowden McElroy. “They’re at risk to become abusers. Once mom and dad go to prison, and the kids go to foster care– it really does become everyone’s problem: emotionally, morally, and financially.”

CFI’s Bowden McElroy was also interviewed by FOX23 in the recent past. He talked with FOX23′s Frank Wiley back in December 2011 about more dad’s taking on the role of caring for children while mom’s are at work full-time.

An excerpt from the interview:

McElroy said more dads are taking on the role for any number of reasons: wives are able to earn more; husbands were laid off, or even the soaring prices of childcare.

Dr. Tim Interviewed by FOX23 About OKC Thunder

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Dr. Tim Doty was interviewed last month by FOX23′s Adam Paluka about fans’ reactions to OKC Thunder losses.

Here’s an excerpt:

Tulsa psychologist Dr. Tim Doty says the way many people in Green County felt when the Thunder lost Game 3 of the NBA Finals Sunday night is called a “shared grief reaction.”

Dr. Doty says because there is just one big league team in the entire state of Oklahoma, this communal feeling of disappointment and frustration with the result of Game 3 is hitting Okies harder than usual.

Divorce in Oklahoma – Dr. Doty Interview with FOX23 News

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Christian Family Institute’s Dr. Dale Doty was interviewed by FOX23 news this week regarding the high rates of divorce in Oklahoma. FOX23 reported that Oklahoma couples marry more often than their counterparts in other regions.

Our community has been aware of these concerns and started the Oklahoma Marriage Initiative (OMI)  in 1999 to address our state’s  high divorce rates.  It has become a model program for the nation.  At Christian Family Institute, we work with couples in all stages of relationships to improve their relationship and reduce the chances of a marriage ending in divorce.  We offer premarital counseling that enables couples to receive a discount on their marriage license in the state of Oklahoma when they complete our program.

For churches, leaders, counselors, and professionals in our state who seek to strengthen marriages, CFI offers trainings on the PREPARE/ENRICH tool (video).  At CFI, we believe in the importance of marriage as a viable, cultural, God-blessed institution.

If you or someone you know needs help preparing for marriage, strenghthening a marriage, or needs to heal after the end of a marriage, our counselors are trained and qualified to offer assistance.
